LIVE!!!! LIVE, MY CREATION!
Gonna quickly throw in an epic quote I found on this article.
KJKJ: Gene Roddenberry, with balls of brass, got up on national tv and said, “hey people, if a geneticist took all the best DNA from planet Earth and put it together to make the best human the world has ever seen - he wouldn’t be a white guy.”
This is why I find the casting of a white actor in this role to be so repugnant. They are not whitewashing an Asian role, they are saying that the best genetic material that the entirety of this world and it’s diversity has to offer….still comes from a white guy.As much as I love scifi and in that, star trek, I’m going to have to exercise my right as a moviegoer not to see this film and support it with my money for this very reason. This is coming from a J.J. Abrams fanboy who’s been on the ‘Bad Robot’ bandwagon since its inception, since lost, fringe, super 8, and anything scifi related touched by Abrams.
But I feel like if I do go I’d be the biggest fucking hypocrite to call out white washing while watching an evidently white washed film. I can’t deal with seeing Hollywood continuously cast us people of color as background and supporting characters or automatically assign roles to white people where a person of color would be a likelier fit. It makes no real sense to the authenticity of the story you’re trying to tell to use some white guy, you essentially say that was your best pick of all the actors both white and colored available, and that’s bullshit. Even when it would make more sense to make it genuinely diverse, not half-ass it.
I know you’ve seen me promote the film on here but that was before it was officially confirmed who would be playing Kahn, since Abrams was coy enough to keep that under wraps until the movie was released. Such a potentially great film ruined by shitty casting and typical white wash. Maybe this may not mean much to white people since it just further promotes the idea that they’re the best example of a human whether dealing with intelligent and valiant heroes or intelligent, multidimensional and valiant villains. But to me, I’m pretty sick and tired of that bullshit and obviously intentional white washing of the real diversity we’re a part of. It shouldn’t be this disproportiate and we have to speak out on bullshit like this even when our favorite directors are doing it.
So as much as it pains my little scifi driven heart, Star Trek: Into Whiteness, I pass.

Diabetic high school girl beaten by police officer & arrested…for falling asleep in class
May 9, 2013A student who was arrested and beaten for falling asleep at school is now suing an Alabama city, its police department and some school employees for civil rights violation, battery and negligent supervision and hiring. After the diabetic student fell asleep while in a room reserved for “in school suspensions,” a school police officer slammed her face into a cabinet and then arrested her. The incident occurred at a high school in Hoover, Alabama.
Ashlynn Avery, who has diabetes, asthma and sleep apnea, was suspended for cutting class, and had to sit in the in-school suspension room. While she was reading “Huckleberry Finn,” she dozed off. First, the in-school suspension supervisor walked over to her cubicle and struck it, which caused the cubicle to hit Avery’s head, according to the lawsuit. She woke up, but soon fell back asleep. The supervisor, Joshua Whited, then took the book from her and slammed it into the student’s chest.
Avery was then told to leave the room, according to the complaint, and police officer Christopher Bryant followed her. Bryant slapped her backpack, and then “proceeded to shove Ashlynn face first into a file cabinet and handcuff her,” the complaint states. While in the car, Avery vomited. She was taken to a hospital and had to wear a cast as a result of her injuries.
“Ashlynn required follow-up care to her shoulder, arm, and wrist, Ashlynn also required extended mental counseling for trauma caused by the defendants,” the lawsuit states. The Averys are seeking “compensatory and punitive damages for civil rights violations, battery and negligent supervision and hiring,”.
The case is another example of abuses committed by school police officers. Activists have long decried the “school to prison pipeline” which disproportionately affects communities of color. A PBS factsheet, as the Courthouse News Service notes, states that “70 percent of students involved in ‘in-school’ arrests or referred to law enforcement are black or Latino.”
“When police (or ‘school resource officers’ as these sheriff’s deputies are often known) spend time in a school, they often deal with disorder like proper cops — by slapping cuffs on the little perps and dragging them to the precinct,” wrote Chase Madar in the wake of the Newtown massacre. The school shooting in Connecticut has sparked more calls—from both Democrats and the National Rifle Association—for more police officers in schools.
that is so fucked up

Mixed 3 ½ tbs. whole wheat flour with ¼ cup unsweetened pineapple juice.
Will be mixing it a few times today, but mostly just leaving by itself just covered enough to prevent dust or bugs from getting in the otherwise boring looking goo.
I’m also adding a tablespoon of yogurt water because eattheroses recommended it. But then the yogurt I bought had no water… so I just added some, left it at room temp to think about its sins overnight, then put it in the fridge to separate back out. It didn’t make a lot of yogurty water, but since I only needed a spoonful I think we’ll call it good.

and the rest of the juice is for me
going to start crafting my sourdough starter today!!!
finally got some spare time and all the ingredients I need
